The Battle for My ID

It's been on my mind a lot lately.

There is a battle for my ID. It is a little crazy. I have sign-ins with a profile, sign-ins with my email, sign-ins with other sign-ins. And to top it off, my service providers can't just accept who I am on the web as good enough.

I have lots of networks. I have lots of contacts. I have lots of messages. The tools happen to be difficult for me to manage, and so now I am looking for a dashboard for my life.

I missed a lot of that at Web 2.0 which focused on tools like Wikis and managed communities for the Enterprise, along with lots of the tools needed to build Rich Internet Apps.

There are platforms out there like Rapleaf (www.rapleaf.com) that lets me see where my friends are based on their email address. That works in figuring out where I spend my time, but it still doesn't help me establish a preference.

The beauty of the web is its intelligence and ability to manage and sort lots of information from lots of individuals. It can filter news for me based on my preference. It can recommend food and restaurants for me. It can tell me where tables are available. It's power has yet to be harnessed, but the pieces are starting to come together.

Stay tuned for more.
